The FA Cup, the FA Amateur Cup, the Fourth Division, the Southern League, the Conf South, various other leagues in non-league
And now the Isle of Man Tournament, 2009.
Very briefly, we beat Ramsey 8-1 (yes, 8-1) in the first game, before grabbing a quick cup of tea and beating the Isle of Man XI (their national side?) with a rather less rampant 3-0 scoreline.
First game, JM got two, the much-maligned Sam Hatton got two, Derek “Dougan” Duncan got two and trialist Rapson (don’t know his first name) also got a couple. The day was ruined with a Ramsay player scoring a penalty, which he will no doubt bore his grandkids with.
Second game, we won 3-0. Lewis Taylor netted the first one. Then, in the second half, Elliot Godfrey and DK netted to give us the trophy. One does wonder if this victory gets us into some alternative Champions League, with games against other small islands/tax havens? No doubt our game against Kettering will now be cancelled, because we’ll be drawn away to NSI Runavik.
Anyway, you won’t get much more about this trip unless somebody decided to do a writeup for me about it. In the meantime, console yourself with the fact that these pre-season trips will become more common. And get your head around a certain Mr M Gayle coming on as sub in both games..
UPDATE: WDON has an interview with Terry Brown from the IoM here.
